“A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit,” said Arnold H. Glasow, a regular contributor to the humour pages of Reader’s Digest magazine.

Being a leader is never an easy task and leading a team is a more difficult one to deal with. Many times new leaders try to avoid difficult tasks to reduce their hectic work but avoiding tasks will never make you an effective leader.

Leaders who do not care about their employee’s performance and do not delegate new responsibilities to their people can put their business at a great loss. Also, when a leader does not provide clear and transparent information to their employees then employees will get confused that can reduce the work quality in the office. Here are a few things to avoid when leading your team:

Lacking humility:

If the employees are unsatisfied with the business due to a lack of correct information for their work and miscommunication then it’s the job of a leader to handle all these issues to help their business grow better. Leaders need to track their employee’s performance and provide them honest feedback about which part of the area they need more improvement. Also, leaders need to make sure that the employees are able to understand the company’s vision and objectives.

Avoiding conflict:

The main role of a leader is to manage their company’s growth along with the work performance of their employees. This can be a hectic and stressful task to deal with and there will be many times that they need to face various difficulties and problems that may occur in the business. Most times new leaders try to avoid these conflicts because they believe it can damage the business. But just avoiding conflicts can never give your better opportunities, so it’s important to overcome every problem in the business to achieve better growth.

Being too friendly:

Although, leaders need to connect with their employees on regular basis to establish a strong relationship with the employees but being too friendly is not a good idea. Because if you are more friendly with your employees then you will not able to lead them properly and it will become harder for you when taking some critical decisions. Make sure that your people can understand the company’s vision and their work tasks to provide better work results.

Not providing employee’s feedback:

New leaders neglect to focus on their employee’s performance, due to which employees are not able to understand their mistakes. So, it’s important that leaders should track their employee’s performance to provide them honest feedback about which part of the area they need more improvement. Employee feedback is necessary to improve productivity and engagement in the office.
